Does Art Have to Be an Object?
A Gallery Rooted in Radical Generosity
Born from an innovation grant and pilot project at Lesley University, created by Deborah Read and Tracy Hayes, this gallery asks a living question: Does art have to be an object? Could it be an act of generosity, and what would that look like?
This inquiry sparked Art+Everywhere, now an international foundation that provides grants, residencies, and exhibition opportunities to its community of artists. That community includes alumni, professors, and mentors from the Clark University MFA, Lesley University MFA, and the Art Institute of Boston, as well as an ever-growing network of collaborators worldwide.
This summer gallery is an extension of that ethos—dedicated to the Rocky Neck Artist Colony in Gloucester, MA. It is both a gift and a generative field: an outflowing of creativity, improvisation, and collaboration between artists and community.
We are passionate about contemporary practices that are experimental, cross-disciplinary, and alive with collaboration. Each summer, the gallery opens its doors as an invitation to adventure together—creating, questioning, and exploring what art can become.
